Standing Still for the Forest

Sunlight glides through the trees
As the forest goes about its busy day
Gathering light
Producing food
It grows and energizes dormant life
Unseen activity gives way to newness
Each day is a fresh grow
Each day the forest gleams anew

And here I stand
In the midst of it all
A passive observer
I take a stand and testify
Great is Your faithfulness
O Lord of the day
Gliding sunlight glancing off the growth
Cells divide
And I didn’t even see it
All I see is the beauty
Of Your movement
Passing through the trees
All I see is Your grace
Giving sufficiency

It’s a new day in the forest.

Nature is never silent about its Maker. The trees, the light, and even the hidden growth beneath the forest floor point us to the faithfulness of God. Psalm 24:1 reminds us that “the earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof”, and in the quiet unfolding of each new day we glimpse God’s sufficiency. This poem reflects on the forest not simply as a natural wonder, but as a living testimony that God’s grace is renewed with every sunrise.

As the forest goes about its busy day Gathering light Producing food
The processes of photosynthesis mirror God’s sustaining power.
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” (Genesis 1:29–30)

It grows and energizes dormant life Unseen activity gives way to newness
“The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear”
(Mark 4:28.)

Each day is a fresh grow / Each day the forest gleams anew / And here I stand In the midst of it all A passive observer / I take a stand and testify Great is Your faithfulness O Lord of the day
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23).

Gliding sunlight glancing off the growth Cells divide And I didn’t even see it
God’s sustaining power is often invisible, yet it upholds all things (Hebrews 1:3).

All I see is the beauty Of Your movement Passing through the trees
“When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.” (Psalm 104:30).

All I see is Your grace Giving sufficiency
“My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

It’s a new day in the forest.
“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24).
