I clipped a rose from its bush
Hoping to save its life for mine,
I embraced its warm and luscious scent
And squeezed it close to my cheeks

I loved my rose
Oh, how I loved it as my own
Yet it was not mine to possess
I merely clipped it from the thorn

It died in my arms
I could not return it to its
Life giving roots,
Buried deep within the life-giving earth.
